So, science fiction is pretty awesome, right?

What is your favorite science fiction related media?

I am a huge fan of the short-lived series Firefly, and the related film Serenity.

I am also a minor trekkie, my favorite series being Deep Space Nine.

I'm at the end of season one of the recent Battlestar Galatica (no spoilers plz!) and love it to death.

Also a Star Wars fan, including all six films and a bunch of the novels and comic book tie-ins.

Also a big fan of the writers Vonnegut, Asimov, Gibson... I haven't read the Hitchhiker's Guide series yet but will soon.

Any other dorks about?

i'm not a big Sci-Fi fan in general. i guess it's the chick thing. emo-tongue3.gif when it's good, it can be really really good, but when it's bad it's horrid.

since you're a Firefly fan... did you watch Dr Horrible's Sing Along Blog? i loved that one. emo-tmbgtalk_0000clap.gif probably cuz it's a musical with Neil Patrick Harris & not very Sci-Fi at all. emo-tongue3.gif it was created by the Firefly guy though. emo-tmbgtalk_thumbup.gif

over the summer we went to see District 9, which was pretty awesome, IMO. emo-tmbgtalk_girlslayer.gif

i never got into the Star Wars movies. i remember when the 1st one came out. i was in Jr High. i heard for weeks & weeks how great it was from kids who saw it down in Little Rock. then when it finally came here... (it's a small town. it took a while back then cuz all we had in the 70s was one single screen movie theater) & i saw it, i was all like... is that it? i felt totally gypped. emo-emot-LOL.gif

back when i used to read, all i ever read were Stephen King books. i was a total King junkie. emo-tmbgtalk_dunno.gif now, reading is a pain in the butt for me, so i mostly stick with magazines in the bathroom. emo-tmbgtalk_bigblush.gif

(reading at the board doesn't really count as reading, i don't think) emo-tongue3.gif

even online, reading kinda hangs me up, cuz my mind tends to wander....

I like Lost, and have been borrowing the DVDs of Battlestar Galactica to try that out, after which I'll try Firefly.

I'm a recovering comic book addict, and love all comic book movies. I'm also a big star wars fan, and enjoyed the short-lived series The 4400 immensely. Luckily, I have Heroes to keep me occupied now. emo-prplhappy.gif

Oddly, I don't gravitate towards Science Fiction books that much, other than comic books. I have, however, immensely enjoyed the core Dragonlance books, and ELfQuest as well.

i looove Lost! emo-tmbgtalk_daz.gif

galoot isn't as into it as me, cuz he gets too frustrated with it. he wants more monsters. emo-tongue3.gif

Flash Forward has been pretty good so far. it's really fast paced, so you don't gotta wait a year to get an answer or two. he likes that.

I have never seen Dr. Horrible, actually. I love Joss Whedon's stuff in general, but for some reason I missed that one. I'll have to rectify that soon.

And BigJohn, I just started watching the new Battlestar series myself, I'm at the end of season one, great so far. I'd be surprised if you didn't like Firefly as I have never met anyone who didn't.

Dr Horrible was a web only thing (in 3 parts) that they made during the writer's strike. i bought it on iTunes for 3 or 4 bux, cuz i couldn't wait, but i'm pretty sure you can watch it for free at Hulu now.

i'm a big NPH fan, & i love musicals, which is why i couldn't wait. emo-tmbgtalk_bigblush.gif

I'm a big fan of science fiction movies and anime... cyberpunk stuff especially. Most of my favorite stuff is as old as, or older than me.

I actually haven't seen the Firefly series, but I did see and love Serenity. I even bought the DVD set for my dad but was never able to watch it. Definitely on my watch list, and hopefully I can pick up the Blu-Ray set some day.

Here's some of my favorite sci-fi movies and anime;

Movies; Blade Runner, The Fifth Element, Terminator, Robocop, Star Wars, Serenity

Anime; Bubblegum Crisis, Macross (aka Robotech), VOTOMS, Ghost in the Shell, Captain Harlock, Cowboy Bebop

I don't read books very often, the only sci-fi stuff I've really read was Neuromancer and the Halo novels. I'd like to check out the other two books in the Sprawl trilogy someday along with Gibson's other work.

I just finished Neuromancer a couple weeks ago, I loved it. All ready bought the other two books in the trilogy which I will get to soon.

Most people that saw Serenity but not Firefly that I know tended to dislike Serenity. You really have to see the series-- You have to imagine what it was like to see Serenity and such events following loving that show for so long.

I'm kind of new to anime but I looove Akira, Cowboy Bebop, and the Miyazaki stuff I've seen.

I'll get to the rest of his books eventually... my laziness has to go away some time. I'll probably see all of Firefly by the end of the year. I'm going to be visiting with my parents for a couple weeks before Christmas and there isn't much to do where they live, so we spend a lot of time with the TV. emo-tmbgtalk_yeah.gif

You've gotten a nice introduction to anime too, you just named some of the all-time best. If you haven't seen anything from Ghost in the Shell (movies or TV series'), I think you'd really enjoy it.

Babylon 5 is one of those things I've always wanted to try out. I loved Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, which is often called a BAB5 ripoff, so I reckon I would enjoy it.

Sweet HD, I'm a huge geek, I even worked at a Game and Comics store for like 20+ years. I'm pressed for time right now but I'll get into more details later. I used to do a blog and a nightly post about nerdlinger stuff on another board that was popular.

Heehee, I love my 80s anime. emo-tmbgtalk_thumbup.gif Speaking of VOTOMS, it's been a while since I watched it... I think it's due for another viewing. emo-tmbgtalk_grnbiggrin.gif

Proud nerd here!

My current fave sci-fi show is Doctor Who, but I've been into all of the following (and I know that some are more fantasy):

Torchwood
Buffy/Angel
Forever Knight
X-Files
Lois & Clark/Smallville
Star Trek (all but Enterprise, though I gave up on DS9 during the War with the Dominion)
Quantum Leap
Star Wars
Stargate (haven't given SGU a chance, but I've been to Atlantis' & SG1's sets)
LOTR
Harry Potter

Most of the sci-fi that I read are tv-tie-ins.

I'm going to go out on a limb and assume your favorite Doctor is David Tennant? I'm a big fan of Paul McGann, which is sort of unfortunate-- but also like Tom Baker and Patrick Troughton a bunch.

i looooved Quantum Leap! they kind of ruined it in the last season or two though... i think. plus, they moved it around so much there at the end, it was hard to even find it. emo-050505tmbgtalk_ohwell050505.gif

which reminds me of Early Edition, which was great in it's first season, so in the second they got rid of pivotal characters, moved it all around, & messed it all up. emo-tmbgtalk_brick.gif

i don't know why they gotta do that to good shows. emo-tmbgtalk_cuss.gif when i like a show in the first season, i'm always a little nervous when season 2 rolls around, cuz it happens so often.

Anybody watch/watching Dollhouse? I love that show, but I'm a Whedon-freak.
