Aw haha. A couple years ago I rewatched Spaceballs with some friends, and none of us had seen the movie in years, and were all like "omg this is the funniest movie ever, lets watch it!!" Then we watched it and were all like, "aw that wasn't nearly as funny as we remembered it being when we were all like 12 yrs old"
I watched The Departed tonight. I thought it was excellent.

I just got back from seeing
Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street a little bit ago... I had been looking forward to seeing it ever since I'd first heard it was being made, and I thought the finished film was every bit as good as I was expecting it to be.

(I saw a college production of the stage show several years ago and loved it; and I also love Johnny Depp's work with Tim Burton.)
The movie version strips the story down to a lean, fast-moving 2 hours to get to the bare bones of the plot, and it takes full advantage of the film medium by offering more intimate performances and more shocking, devastating violence (so much so that, just when you'd expect the camera to pull away, it doesn't). I'd also commend Burton for picking his cast more for their acting skills than their singing ability -- Depp, in particular, would be better suited to glam rock than to musical theater, and Helena Bonham Carter talk-sings her way through many of her numbers, but they both manage to hit all the right emotional notes for their characters. And of course, Stephen Sondheim's score is still such powerful stuff that the stylized gore and the stars' limited voices don't really take anything away from it.

The most recent theatrical film I saw was National Treasure 2. It was my sister's birthday and her pick. The movie wasn't that good, but I thought it had a great premise. Just the finished product was missing something. On one hand, there wasn't enough action, but on the other hand, there wasn't enough story. So it was lacking in both departments. I've never seen National Treasure. John Voight, Ed Herris and Harvey Kietel are wasted on this fluff.
On DVD, I watched The Mummy, The Mummy's Hand and The Mummy's Tomb which are all encluded on The Mummy: Legacy Edition (and two other sequels) that I got for Christmas. The Mummy is a great supernatural thriller with a very sympathetic antagonist. Karloff may even surpass his performance as the Monster in Bride of Frankenstein here. Also, I can really see what plot threads Stephen Sommers picked up on for his remake, though still an entirely different story. The Mummy's Hand oddly sets up an almost identical situation, only to turn it into something else entirely, and shruggs off any continuity to the Mummy. Here we have a typical slasher set up, where an isolated group of potential victems are picked off one by one. It also suffers from some unneeded comic relief, however, it still was pretty well done and has some real creepy visuals. The Mummy's Tomb is a direct sequel to The Mummy's Hand and was, pretty much, a peice of crap. The same thing again only not nearly as well crafted, and only an hour long.
I've also watched several Popeye the Sailor shorts on another DVD set I got for Christmas. I guess those are technicly movies too.

I hope they don't make any more Bourne movies. They have a perfect trilogy and there's no reason to ruin it by unnecessary sequels. But since it's a successful series and since the studio executives love making money, I guess it's inevitable that they'll make more. With or without Matt Damon in the role.

Junebug. I thought it was a very nice piece of work: It's about a guy who marries an outsider-art gallery owner in Chicago and then takes her to North Carolina so she can meet his family and deal with a potential client; I liked that, although it's about a dysfunctional Southern (North Carolina) family, the film treats the characters with affection and dignity rather than making jokes of them.

It starts out pretty funny, but it's ultimately very touching.

Hey, nobody's seen everything. I know there's plenty of awesome movies I haven't seen... and likewise there's awesome stuff I've seen that others haven't.
The first time I watched Blade Runner, I didn't make it past the part with the eyes.

That type of stuff used to really gross me out, but it's not much of a problem anymore.
Even better is Blade Runner was the inspiration for one of my favorite anime series; Bubblegum Crisis. There are 'people' just like the Replicants, except they're called 'Boomers' and some of the characters names are even taken from the movie. The intro music for the first episode is also VERY similar to the Blade Runner opening music. The actual story is miles away from Blade Runner, but covers some of the same things.

Its when the two replicants show up at the lab (freezer-looking place) of the guy that designed their eyes. One of them (Roy) pulls an eyeball from a tank and is kind of playing with it. Than when the other guy is asking the eye-maker questions, Roy starts putting them on his shoulders.

Having seen the new adaptation of Jane Austen's

(Speaking of Jane Austen adaptations on PBS,

that sounds familiar, but i can't place it.

galoot doesn't want to take me to see Cloverfield. he's afraid the shaky camera would bother me. he said he can wait & watch it on TV.

not on a rental or a movie channel.

he's just real protective of me. it's sweet, actually.

i can't even walk through a parking lot without an escort. (you know, i have that whole vision problem thang)
he warns me about every step & every curb, cuz i can't see em. they're all like flat to me.

(more so on the way down than up for some reason)
anyhoo, i just wanted to go cuz i thought it sounded like something he'd like.

This morning I watched
The Wings of the Dove on video; I was in the mood to see it again after I finished re-reading Henry James' novel (on which it was based) a couple of days ago. (I first read the book and caught the film version on the big screen a little over 10 years ago, and I've seen the movie on video several times since.)
Great performances all around -- especially from Linus Roache and Helena Bonham Carter as a poor English couple, and Alison Elliot as the dying American heiress they befriend in the hopes that she'll leave them her fortune -- and the story is a brilliant distillation of the book.

i never heard of that movie.

is it just me or is Helena Bonham Carter like the cutest thing ever? she always gets dissed for what she wears... even if it's something that would get kudos if somebody else wore it.

i think she's adorable... & a really good actress.

Yep!

Today I went to see
There Will Be Blood -- it was simply amazing.

It was epic, but it was also an intimate and absorbing character study; each scene had its own buildup of tension and suspense. Great performances from Daniel Day-Lewis (as a power-mad oilman in early 20th-century California) and Paul Dano (as his pious nemesis).

I think Helena is adorable, as well. In a creepy way.

Klim and I watched Sweeny Todd last night. I loved it. the songs are catchy. haha
And it was a great plot. I loved the "blood" haha

She looks like she could be from the silent film era. Wings of the Dove was very good from what I remember. I'm sort of a sucker for all those English period dramas. The good ones anyway.

I just finished watching this movie called "Boys dont cry" Starring Hilary Swank.
It's a true story about a transgenderd woman named Teena Brandon. But she prefers Brandon.
this was an amazing movie. I am shaking right now, and have sweaty palms. That happends when I get nervous.
this movie was made in 99 I believe, by a woman named Kimberly Pierce.
Gosh, I cant get over how amazing it was. If you haven't seen it, you need to. I recommend it. I am still shaking. wow.
