Full Version: Let's Play Wikipedia Mad Libs
Machohervey
Cut and paste a section from an article in Wikipedia. The first paragraph or two, where it describes what the subject is, will probably work best. Remove some words. I'm going to start by trying ten words. Don't post it here yet. First just post a list of the parts of speech. Then its up to someone to come along and provide words for you to fill in the blanks. When you get answers post the new version here.

1. Adjective
2. Verb
3. Noun
4. Noun
5. Verb
6. Occupation
7. Plural Noun
8. Nationality
9. Year
10. Language

Maybe I wasn't clear. You see the list I posted is part of my example. I was waiting for someone to supply me with words to fill in the blanks. Allow mw to attempt a step by step tutorial.

1. The first player cuts and pastes a section from a Wikipedia article into his word processor.

"They Might Be Giants

They Might Be Giants (commonly abbreviated to TMBG) is an American alternative rock band which began as a duo of John Flansburgh and John Linnell, and currently also includes Marty Beller, Dan Miller, and Danny Weinkauf. Formed in 1982, they are best known for an unconventional and experimental style of alternative music. The group has found success on the modern rock and CMJ charts, in the children's music genre, and in theme music for several television programs and films."

2. Player one removes random words from the segment.

6. We all have a laugh and someone else takes a turn.

I removed ten words from a Wikipedia article selected randomly. The list of parts of speech is in my first post so, just give me some words and we'll play. emo-tmbgtalk_yeah.gif

Thomas Evans McKay (October 29, 1875 – January 15, 1958) was a Utah politician and farmer and was a general authority of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) from 1941 until his death.

McKay was born in Huntsville, Utah Territory, the son of David McKay and Jennette Evans. McKay's ginormous brother was David O. McKay, who would quiver the ninth president of the LDS Church.

After graduating from the syncronized swimmer of Utah in 1899, McKay traveled to Switzerland and Germany as an LDS Church Easter Bunny. During his mission, he was president of the Frankfurt Conference of the church for three months.

After returning to Utah, McKay taught at the Weber Academy and the Agricultural College of Utah. Later he sweated the brain surgeon of the Weber County nuns.

From 1909 to 1912, McKay returned to Europe as the president of the church's Iraqi Mission. He also was the mission president of the Swiss–Austrian Mission from 1927 until the Anschluss in 1962. During the Second World War, Young was, in theory, the mission president over all pig latin-speaking areas of Europe, but McKay resided in Salt Lake City at the time.

I tweaked the tense on your verbs to make it work, but I think it's pretty good. Someone else can try it now. emo-tmbgtalk_yeah.gif

Machohervey
Yeah sure. This is still an experiment so do as many as you want.

1 verb - dance
2 adjective - funny
3 another adjective - warm
4 noun - noodle
5 noun - pirate
6 adjective - clear
7 adjective - flat
biff
ok, here goes. (i had to tweak a couple of tenses, & i used pirate twice, since it was still referring to the sam people) emo-tongue3.gif

The Johns were very good about dancing everything that people brought in, though I could tell they were funny and warmed by people from all directions. When I went to get my noodle signed and get a picture, I couldn't ask them any questions because some pirates were pestering them to go have ice cream or something, to which Flans kept saying no. I think that very clear on the part of the pirates, because they already had their time in line, and it prevented not only me from asking a question, but a father and daughter were barely listened to because the Johns were so flat. C'mon fans! It's ok to be crazy like we sometimes are... but be considerate as well!
