i don't know much about hockey, but i'll talk about anything.

you know i'll talk sports with you, Pich. that's what 'the return of the endless thread' kinda turned into at the old board anyway.

It sort of did since I lacked things to talk about in it other than sporty things. My days/life are too uneventful or uninteresting to talk about most of the time.
But on the subject of hockey, I completed the NRHL's draft for 2008 last night. Results are posted on my site, and also plan to remodel the site in February to dedicate it fully to the NRHL (even if hardly anyone looks at it or cares about it).

Thirty-six Florida State players won't be going to the Dec. 31 Music City Bowl against Kentucky because of an academic cheating scandal, violations of team rules, injuries or other reasons.

Yeah, though this one guy who coached the Razorbacks once who now is an analyst on ESPN said he had to deal with that once for a Bowl game and his Hogs won like 28-6 or something. He says they just have to focus on what they got, and not on what they don't have.

Florida State is tied 14-14 with Kentucky right now early in the 3rd. Seems missing 36 players isn't hurting them too badly so far. We'll just have to see how they finish (though as my last post shows, stating the score mid-game never ends well). Hopefully Michigan can beat the Gators tomorrow, surprise everyone in the nation who thinks Florida will steam roll them.

I watched most of the 3rd period. Was tough to watch when I had the Michigan game to watch as well, and I slept until 3 pm. Michigan stomped Florida 41-35 also thanks to some great defense on the final two offensive drives the Gators were given. Lloyd Carr and his seniors get to move on with one final win under their belt, only the first bowl win for that class of seniors as well. It'll be so weird next year watching the Wolverines without Adrian Arrington, Chad Henne, Jake Long, or Mike Hart.
Edit: Watching the Rose Bowl now and the Illinois marching band is playing "Stairway to Heaven" at halftime. Thought it'd be worth mentioning before I forget it later.

I watched it on CBC, and turns out it was also on NBC which I didn't know. And I've heard that Missouri was basically showcasing what they could do, much at the expense of Arkansas. Blackcaps were on a bit of a losing streak, we lost 4-1 to South Africa then 3-0 to Australia, but so far we're up 3-0 against Bangladesh, Bangladesh suck but I'll take whatever wins I can get. But the last game we whopped em so hard it was unbelievable, it was meant to be 50 overs each way, we got them all out in 37, and then got there score in 6, so it wasn't even half a games worth. Brendan McCullum hit 80* off just 28 balls, breaking his own record for fastest 50 for a New Zealander which he got of 19 balls, which was only 2 balls off breaking the world record.

The good old Bayou Tigers from LSU won the championship game last night. I forget what the score is already since it wasn't important (I think 31-17). But I knew Ohio State would lose, I knew they'd be overmatched, I knew they stood NO CHANCE of winning. This game was a waste of everyone's time, may as well just handed the trophy to LSU at the start since we knew they'd win. This was one more reason why the Bowl System sucks.

He was supposed to be taking over for Chad Henne this year, but decided to screw us because of the coaching change. #1 ranked and undefeated North Carolina lost at home 82-80 to ACC opponent Maryland not long ago. Tyler Hansbrough, the guy they can never stop talking about, missed a last-second three off an inbound pass that could've won the game. It was hilarious watching the fans in the crowd, since they were all in tears and shit. Not like the game eliminates them from the national title race or anything, or even a conference title. Just means they won't be undefeated (which I doubt they could've did anyway).

Big news from the first weekend of games: Seattle extends their regular-season winning streak to 12 games with their 4-0 victory Sunday at San Jose, Dominik Antrovic gets the shutout; Detroit extends their regular season losing streak to 13 games after losing their home opener 5-1 to Buffalo Sunday, tying the longest streak in league history also set by Detroit back in 2006; Knoxville got blew out 6-2 at home by Chicago also on Sunday, extending their losing streak to 7 games; Washington lose 3-2 in a shootout (1-0 in the SO) to Atlanta at home Saturday, following the raising of their championship banners from last season; Dallas lost 3-0 to Utah at home as well Saturday, after raising all three of their banners from last season; Columbus was the only champion (division, conference, and Horner's Cup) who played their home opener to win their game, beating Toronto 4-1 to continue dominance against Central Division foes (16-1-0 between this season and last).
Lots of things happening in this first weekend. Also, Phoenix's Ludwig Krueger II got 9 penalty minutes in the Phantoms' 6-5 OT loss at Los Angeles. He fought with rookie Brent Lawson and had two other penalties, displaying his aggressive recklessness early in the season.

News from the NRHL: Phoenix Phantoms forward Ludwig Krueger II got himself 8 PIMs (penalties in minutes) Wednesday night in the Phantoms' 4-0 win over the Las Vegas Leopards. In the 3rd period with the game in hand, Krueger was called for slashing and was ejected from the game for his actions. The penalty gave him 4 minutes in the box for a teammate to serve as the player, Michael-Sean Morgan, was injured. Morgan suffered a sprained knee from the illegal play and will miss 3 weeks, while Krueger has been issued a warning from the league. This is only Krueger's 2nd year in the league, after being drafted by Knoxville last season and released in June before signing with Phoenix in July. He's already been suspended twice (one game each) during his rookie season, and could be looking at another suspension if he keeps playing this dirty. Two games in, he already has 17 PIMs to lead the league.
Sorry that it's such a long thing, but it's worth mentioning to any interested.

SEC moves remaining games to Georgia Tech after storm damages dome
The Associated Press
ATLANTA — The Southeastern Conference moved the rest of its men’s basketball tournament to Georgia Tech after a possible tornado damaged the Georgia Dome, and one team will have to play a doubleheader Saturday.
The Georgia-Kentucky quarterfinal game, which was postponed Friday after the storm struck, will be played at noon Saturday. The winner of that game will have to return in the evening to face Mississippi State in the semifinals.
The other semifinal between No. 4 Tennessee and Arkansas will be played at 6 p.m. Saturday.
Since Alexander Memorial Coliseum is smaller than the Georgia Dome — 9,100 seats as opposed to 26,000 in the dome’s basketball configuration — only players’ families and those with working credentials will be allowed to attend the remaining games.
The championship will be held Sunday.
i can't believe one of those poor teams are gonna have to play two in one day!

& it's a shame that so many people who went there to see the tournament aren't gonna be able to go now.

Chicago and Philadelphia also stay perfect, as the Comets beat Miami 3-1 and the Pirates beat Toronto 3-2 in OT. The Magnets and San Jose Stingrays, who lost 2-0 to Dallas at home, are the only winless teams remaining. I have them losing to North Carolina this round, too. No way in hell they'll be able to upset the Tar Heels, the game is in Raleigh. But at least they got through the first round. This time I was proven right, North Carolina made bacon out of the Hogs and shot over 60% for the game. Was like 108-76 or something like that, so my bracket is still intact (at least in one neck of the woods).
As for the NRHL: Seattle knocked off Columbus 4-2 at the Superstar Stadium in Seattle to stay undefeated at 5-0 and extend the streak to 16 straight. Their next game is fierce rival Vancouver at home before they host Phoenix, who will have the vicious Ludwig Krueger II back for that game. The Cobras were meant to be one of their toughest tests in their quest for the record, and they handled them easily. The next Eastern powerhouse they face is Chicago which is also upcoming (April 16th). We'll just see if they can keep it rolling.
