Well, good for him. 
(I wasn't a BIG fan of the LOTR movies, but I've had high hopes for the guy since Heavenly Creatures and The Frighteners.)

my favourite of his is & will always be Dead Alive aka Braindead. 
it was the bloodiest zombie movie i've ever seen... & pretty funny too. 
it's called Dead Alive in the US, & it was edited, but i saw it unedited on IFC. it still had the US title though.
i think the 2nd LOTR was my favourite of the trilogy. i liked the walkin trees. (but i'm not a BIG fan either. i watched em cuz galoot was)
in other news... the writers aren't gonna give writing wavers for the Oscars or Golden Globes. i'm not sure about the Globes, but i know they're not gonna let them use any movie clips at the Oscar ceremony either.

I tried to read the books when I was in middle school, but they bored the heck outta me. I got through the first one and started the second, but couldn't finish it. I did like reading The Hobbit, however, and am looking forward to the movie!

i never read any of the books, for the same reason.

Hopefully the oscars will go by faster this year. They always waste too much time on trivial stuff on that show anyway.

They're going to have to be REALLY inventive this time around, or they're going to be the biggest, most pathetic award-show train wrecks ever. Either way, I can't wait to tune in and find out.
yeah. i like those kind of train wrecks. it's probably gonna be all the talk the day after. i hate when i miss something that ends up being all the talk.

Yeah, I'm still on the writers' side.

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Guillermo del Toro is directing "The Hobbit" and its sequel, New Line Cinema announced Thursday. The 43-year-old filmmaker will move to New Zealand for four years to make the films back-to-back with executive producer Peter Jackson.
Del Toro wrote and directed "Pan's Labyrinth," which earned six Oscar nominations in 2006 and won three awards. He is also the director of the upcoming sequel "Hellboy II: The Golden Army," whose monsters bear the unmistakeable surreal vision of the Mexican-born filmmaker.
"I am indeed blessed to become a part of the filmmaking community that Peter, Fran and their extraordinary team of collaborators have created in New Zealand," del Toro said in a statement. "Contributing to the 'Lord of the Rings' legacy is an absolute dream come true."
Jackson and Walsh called del Toro "a cinematic magician who has never lost his childlike sense of wonder."
"We have long admired Guillermo's work and cannot think of a more inspired filmmaker to take the journey back to Middle-Earth," they said in a statement.
Jackson co-wrote, co-produced and directed the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy, which won 17 Oscar and 30 nominations.

As for Watchmen, I wasn't too keen on that one anyway.
Have you heard that the next Harry Potter movie (HP and the Half-Blood Prince) was pushed back to July of next year? A lot of the posters at the children's-writer boards I visit are upset because they were really looking forward to seeing it this November.
